Maserati History


Maserati SpA - the Italian company, manufacturer of exclusive sports cars and business class. Founded in 1914 in Bologna, Italy. Company logo is a trident. Headquarters is located in Modena, Italy. The company currently owns an Italian industrial group Fiat. Production volume in 2007 amounted to 7,669 cars. Maserati Quattroporte № 1 belongs to former Italian president Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, and the Maserati Quattroporte № 2 - the current Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Others are sold worldwide.

The family had six brothers Maserati: Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, Ernesto and Mario. Mario has devoted himself to art. Carlo began a successful career as a racing driver, but in 1919, died of tuberculosis. Alfieri, Bindo and Ernesto worked at an automobile company «Isotta-Fraschini». In 1914 Alfieri decided to open his own workshop in the vicinity of Bologna. Soon he was joined by two younger brothers - Bindo and Ernesto, and together they built a sports car with a two-liter engine. In 1926, with financial support Diat brothers founded the company Maserati. The company began producing vehicles with 4 -, 6 -, 8 - and 16-cylinder engines. One of the first Maserati caused by Alfieri, won in 1926, Targa Florio.

Artist Mario has developed a company logo - a trident. In 1932 Alfieri died, but three other brothers (Bindo, Ettore and Ernesto) continued the company's business.

In 1937 the remaining Maserati brothers sold the company to Orsi family, who in 1940 moved the company headquarters in his hometown of Modena, where he posted. During the Second World War the company was working for the needs of the Italian army.
